Nigeria Police Force take action against "Nigerian Prolice Faux" Twitter handle.

The Nigeria Police Force has declared war against a parody Twitter account which goes by the name, Nigerian Police Faux.

The handle introduces itself as the “Official PARODY Twitter account of The Nigerian Police Force,” with Twitter handle @PoliceNGfaux.

It adds, “This account does not represent the views of NPF,” urging followers to “Report cases to the Nigeria Police.”

The Twittter handle, which has over 16,000 followers, was created in July 2012, and has tweeted 1,411 tweets.

Its pinned tweet, posted on September 10, derides the Nigeria Police by stating, “Standing at checkpoints without seeing Yahoo boyz.”

The Twitter handle responds to all sorts of issues, and appears to mock perceived corrupt practices in the Force.

For instance, on September 11, it put up a tweet about illegal checkpoints:
On September 5, it decried the alleged robbery of rapper Ikechukwu, who said persons suspected to be SARS operatives arrested him, seized his ATM card, and took him to an ATM gallery where they used his debit card to empty his bank account:

On August 29, the parody was about Police and ‘yahoo Boys’:

Its most recent tweet was about Police killing of two FUOYE students, as well as stories about some girls who were murdered in separate Port Harcourt hotels at different times after spending time with their killers:

However, on Monday, the Nigeria Police Force threatened to clamp down on the account.

In a tweet via its verified Twitter handle @PoliceNG, the NPF states: “The attention of the Nigeria Police Force has been drawn to a new Twitter handle known as “@policeNGfaux

“Be it known to the public that the handle does not emanate from the Nigeria Police Force.

“It is not only fraudulent but ostensibly designed to spread fake news and consequently tarnish the image of the Force.”

The NPF then warned, “Members of the public are advised not to ‘follow’ the handle and those currently ‘following’ the handle are advised to stop forthwith.”

It adds, “Meanwhile, investigation is on to ascertain the source of the fraudulent handle and deal with it appropriately.”

In response, Nigeria Police Faux tweets:
